26.08.2008 MAN Updates TGM and TGL

MAN will give its TGL and TGM truck ranges their first facelift later this year, just three years after their launch. The revised light- and medium-weight trucks, which will feature the same smooth grille as the larger TGS and TGX, will be officially launched at September's IAA Show in Hannover. The MAN TGL and TGM series gain new grilles and subtle aerodynamic improvements, while under the bonnet there are more powerful engines with EGR (exhaust-gas recirculation) and common-rail injection, and engines of all ratings are also offered with EEV emissions levels. Interior improvements will include a much needed boost to in-cab storage, new fabrics and trim, an upgraded driver's seat and a longer list of creature comforts. Powering the new trucks are EGR-equipped Euro 5 and EEV-compliant (effectively Euro 5 and a half) versions of the D08 engine.

There is also a transmission update for the TGL and TGM series. A six-speed ZF 6 S 800 OD gearbox will premiere for light duty versions without trailer applications, while a nine-speed ZF 9 S 1310 OD becomes standard equipment for the medium-weight TGM with more powerful engines and for towing trailers. The MAN TipMatic automatic transmission, meanwhile, will be available to special order.
