19.04.2011 MAN to Build Trucks in St Petersburg

German truck maker MAN has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with St Petersburg's govenor, Valentina Matviyenko for building a euro25 million ($36 million) truck assembly plant in St. Petersburg. Gov. Valentina Matviyenko signed the document with MAN Truck & Bus AG CEO Georg Pachta-Reyhofen. MAN plans to start making some 6,000 vehicles per year in St Petersburg for its target markets in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. St Petersburg has pledged to ensure the supply of power, water and gas to the plant and to support the improvement and maintenance of the access roads to the new MAN plant.

By as early as 2012 about 25 percent of its trucks sold in Russia will have been produced locally. It will also develop local suppliers. It is above all the advantageous infrastructure conditions that speak in favour of St. Petersburg. MAN will probably build the production line in existing premises – that will save long construction and start-up times.
