13.05.2010 New High Speed Train from Siemens

Siemens has unveiled their latest high speed train the Velaro D at their Krefeld works. The Germany based company won the €500m ($659m) contract to assemble 15 of the fourth-generation trains in 2008. Carrying up to 460 passengers, the eight-car Velaro-D trains can transport 30 more passengers than the class-406 ICE3 trains. The 15 sets, each formed of 8 vehicles, will enter service with Deutsche Bahn from December 2011, with the final set being delivered by mid 2012. It is planned to deploy the 320 km/h trains on cross-border service between Germany, Belgium and France.

DB is looking at the possibility of using the trains for services to St Pancras International, but first they will study the new regulations that apply to trains using the Channel Tunnel and what modifications will be needed for rolling stock before they can travel along the route.
