24.12.2013 BMW X5 eDrive Hybrid: from concept to reality
For the first time BMW Concept X5 eDrive plug-in-hybrid was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and now, only few months later, its prototype is being tested. Although officially BMW would not say if the car was destined for production, it could go on sale within the next two years.
Unlike its concept the prototype lacks specially designed aerodynamic body kit and alloy wheels, but features the plug-in adaptor door on the front fender. BMW X5 eDrive Hybrid is powered by 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, 94-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, which is mounted under the boot floor. In all-electric mode the car is able to overcome 30 km with maximum speed of 120 km/h.
According to the manufacturer the average combined fuel consumption is 3.8 liters per 100 km, and CO2 emissions - 90 g/km. BMW X5 eDrive Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds. Nevertheless, the abovementioned numbers may change when the car enters production.
